Colors selected in 'Control Panel' are ignored in Office due to design.

Cause:

Some color selections in Windows 95 Control Panel are not recognized by Office 95 applications. For example, changing 'Selected Items' color in Windows only affects Office items in list box, drop down menu, menu items, and items in text box. Selected text in Excel or Word always assumes the inverse color of the window background.

Solution:

There is no workaround for this problem.
